In 2025, the Maverick is gaining serious ground. This autonomous weeding robot is now operating on dozens of fields across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France. Day and night, it removes weeds with impressive precision, completely independently.
But what exactly makes this machine stand out? What’s new in the 2025 model? Which crops is it suited for, and why are more and more farmers convinced? Let’s break it down.
What exactly does the Maverick do?
The Maverick is a fully autonomous weeding robot, developed for organic arable farming. Instead of using chemical herbicides, it relies on a smart camera system and mechanical arms. Cameras mounted on top of the robot constantly scan the field. These images are analyzed in real time, allowing the robot to distinguish between crops and weeds.
Once a weed is identified, mechanical arms remove it from the soil with a precision of about two millimeters. The crop remains untouched.
The robot navigates fields independently and runs 24 hours a day. Aside from the occasional battery swap, it needs very little human input. Everything is controlled via a user-friendly smartphone app, making operation straightforward and efficient.
What’s new in the 2025 model?
This is the first full-scale production model. Compared to the prototypes from 2023 and 2024, several improvements have been made. The motors are more powerful, the software has been upgraded, and a safety bumper has been added. The mechanical arms, known as “Weaders,” have been redesigned for greater precision and durability.
In practice, this means fewer breakdowns and more consistent performance, even under tough conditions.
Which crops is it suited for?
The Maverick is now used in crops such as onions (both flat-field and ridge systems), carrots, chicory, and red beet. Parsnip is next on the list. The robot continues to learn new crops through data collected in collaboration with farmers.
Raised beds have also been successfully tested. For France, specific models have been developed with a 3x60 cm track width. A wider version, 3x75 cm, is also in the works.
Are there limits to the technology?
Yes, there are. When crops grow too large and begin to overshadow the weeds, the cameras lose visibility. At that point, the robot can no longer detect or remove the weeds. This is why the Maverick is most effective during the early growth stages, when weeds are still clearly visible.
What do farmers say about it?
Feedback has been mostly positive. Farmers often mention the robot’s 24/7 operation as a major benefit. While you sleep, the robot continues working. One Maverick can replace around three workers per hour, which adds up to about nine workers in a full day.
There is still room for improvement, especially with larger weeds or crops that vary greatly in size. But trust in the technology is growing. The entire 2025 production run is already sold out, and pre-orders for 2026 are nearly full.
Where is it operating now?
Currently, there are twenty Mavericks in use. Most are working in Flevoland, with others active throughout the Netherlands and abroad. Demo events are held regularly, including at the bio in Lelystad and in Thisnes, Belgium.
You can also see the robot in action yourself. Contact our account manager Jeroen Veltman to arrange a visit with one of our current users.
Support and delivery
Odd.Bot handles delivery and training directly. After a hands-on instruction session, farmers are ready to operate the robot themselves. The app allows users to start, adjust, and monitor the robot, with software updates installed automatically.
In the Netherlands, Odd.Bot works with local mechanization partners such as Weevers BV in Swifterbant and Doorgrond in the north. In France, the first dealers have already joined to provide local support.
What does it cost, and how can you order one?
The Maverick is available starting at €106,950 (excluding VAT). This includes delivery, training, and access to the software. Production for 2025 is already full, so we’ve opened the pre-order program for 2026. You can register without obligation until September 1, 2025. After that, we can’t guarantee availability for delivery in 2026.
