The sun hangs high above the straight rows of carrots and parsnips in the Dutch Flevopolder. The fields are quiet, except for the gentle hum of a small white machine moving slowly but deliberately between the crops. This is Maverick, our weed-picking robot, and he’s here to change the way we tackle weeds forever.
Why We Built Maverick
Farmers know weeds are more than just a nuisance, they directly threaten yields and crop quality. For decades, the only options were long hours of manual weeding or the use of chemical herbicides. Manual labor is costly and exhausting, while pesticides damage the soil and environment.
When we learned that the European Commission was searching for sustainable alternatives, we decided to put our robotics expertise to work on a solution that could truly stand the test of time.
How Maverick Works
Maverick is no ordinary machine. Inside, advanced vision systems and AI are hard at work. As he moves along the rows, he scans the soil, plant by plant. Three mechanical arms precisely remove weeds, leaving the crops untouched. The results speak for themselves: up to six weeds per second plucked straight from the earth. One Maverick can clean 5 hectares in just four days, replacing the work of up to ten human laborers.
What This Means for Farmers
For organic farmers, Maverick offers an immediate advantage: no chemicals, less soil compaction, and reduced labor costs. But he’s also becoming more attractive to conventional farmers, especially as herbicides grow more expensive and face increasing bans. Best of all, Maverick works around the clock. No breaks, no back pain, no fatigue.
Our Vision for the Future
